How to start?
You need two iPhones 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 or 4S with an operating system version 3.0 and higher (e.g. 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.1, 5.0.1 etc). Let us just remind you, that for now PhoneCopy for iPhone only transfers contacts. The list of officially supported devices is here.
STEP 1: Backup contacts from your old iPhone
Run the Apple AppStore on your old iPhone and search for Phonecopy application, which you can download free of charge (we've been using version 1.02 in this tutorial). After downloading and installation, go through following steps.
Now you can start the first synchronization on your old iPhone to backup your data to PhoneCopy server
Now you have all your contacts synchronized on PhoneCopy and before the transfer into the new iPhone, you can edit your contacts in your online account. PhoneCopy can also be used as a backup service, should you lose your phone or the stored data, or if you just run out of battery and you need to see your contacts online. Also, on your online account, you will see full history of your contacts, as well as the data that you've deleted in between the synchronizations. You can find them in an archvie from where you can restore them. And if this is still not enough of a backup for you, you can download a .CSV file, that you can store in your computer
STEP 2: Upload contacts to your new iPhone
After synchronization of your old iPhone on your new iPhone run the Apple AppStore as well. Then search for Phonecopy application again, install it and go through following steps.
Now you can start the first synchronization on your new iPhone to retrieve all contacts from PhoneCopy server to iPhone.
Some additional tips:
Just as a reminder, the contacts are carried via your mobile phone service provider, so you need to have data transfers activated for the service to work. If you don't have a special data scheme, your carrier will charge you additional fees (during our testing, cca 500 contacts cost approximately 1,5 USD for all the data carried during a full syncronization, service provided by O2). With PhoneCopy for iPhone we support not only iPhone but iPad and iPod Touch as well. Contact transfer is naturally also possible from an iPhone to Nokia, or you can synchronize as you wish between two or more cell phones (from iPhone to iPad, from SE to Nokia etc).
The whole transfer, including the settings, can be done in several minutes and the service is completely free.
