How to synchronize contacts between iPhone and Mac

Considering that a number of users using iPhone and Mac is still growing, more and more people find themselves in need of transferring or synchronize contacts in between this two devices without need of direct connection. How to start?

You need an Mac with an operating system version 10.5 (Leopard) and higher. Also you need an iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, 4 or 4S with an operating system version 3.0 and higher (e.g. 3.1.2, 3.1.3, 4.0, 4.0.1, 4.1, 5.0.1 etc). Let us just remind you, that for now boht PhoneCopy for iPhone and PhoneCopy for Mac only transfers contacts. The list of other officially supported devices is here.


STEP 1: Backup addressbook from your Mac

Download PhoneCopy for Mac to your Mac, which you can download free of charge. After downloading and installation, go through following steps.

Start PhoneCopy for Mac Choose Log into an new account

Choose your username and password, fill email address and captscha, On next step, select synchronization direction.

Type in your username, password and captscha Select sync direction

Now you can start the first synchronization on your Mac to backup your data to PhoneCopy server.

Now you have all your contacts synchronized on PhoneCopy and you can edit your contacts in your online account. PhoneCopy can also be used as a regular synchronization service to synchronize with other devices, should you lose your Mac's stored data, or if you just run out of MacBook battery and you need to see your contacts online. Also, on your online account, you will see full history of your contacts, as well as the data that you've deleted in between the synchronizations. You can find them in an archvie from where you can restore them. And if this is still not enough of a backup for you, you can download a .CSV file, that you can store on USB dongle


STEP 2: Upload contacts to your iPhone

After synchronization of your Mac, you have to run the Apple AppStore on your iPhone . Then search for Phonecopy application, install it and go through following steps.

Press the button Log in/new account Choose Log into an existing account Type in your username and password

Now you can start the first synchronization on your iPhone to retrieve all contacts from PhoneCopy server to iPhone.

Or you can press the Synchronize button to start the synchronization.
